Preparing for improved activities regarding lifts safety

The Free Movement of Goods (FMG) project has supported a study visit to Slovenia for officials of Kosovo institutions dealing with issues on safety of lifts. During this visit, meetings were held with representatives of Slovenia’s Ministry of Economic Development and Technology to discuss the implementation of legislation (technical rules) on lifts safety and cooperation with other ministries (relevant inspectorates) and the authorization procedure with conformity assessment bodies which regularly inspect the safety of lifts in use.

At the meeting with the National Standards Body (SIST), discussions were held on the preparation and publication in the official gazette of harmonized standards on lifts safety and the model of preparation and implementation of the National Standardization Strategy; during the visit of ZVD (Inspection Body) the first and periodic inspection of lifts was discussed. The inspection of two types of lifts was demonstrated.

The final meeting was with the Labor inspectorate to exchange experiences regarding the inspection of lifts in the working environment. During this meeting Kosovo representatives were presented with the duties of the Labor inspectorate and the measures taken by them if they find out that a lift is in a dangerous state. This study visit was very important for all participants, who directly benefited from the experience and knowledge of the Slovenian side.
